I started playing the guitar
in 2000, Shortly thereafter I started writing songs. I finished
my first song in May 2002. The title of this song was "Alone"
and it became the first track on my Rye Whiskey Why CD. I
met Chris Booher (Patriot Recording Studios) in August 2003
and showed him the six songs I had written thus far. He liked
them well enough to encourage me to take it all to the next
level - the recording studio. In April 2004 I recorded four
songs, then returned in June to finish the CD. Some say my
music sounds a bit like George Strait or Chris LeDoux. I think
it sounds an awful lot like me. You'll have to be the judge
of that. I've tried to incorporate interesting lyrics with
a truly traditional country sound. That is the country music
I've listened to for as long as I can remember. There's no
"pop" in this country. I do my best to avoid sounding
like mainstream country music radio. There's just not much
going on there that interests me. Enjoy!
Rye Whiskey Why was recorded in Burleson, Texas in 2004, however,
the vocals have since been re-recorded (March 2005)and re-mixed
and mastered. Backed by the incredible musical talents of:
Chris Booher - fiddle/keyboard; Ron Jones
- bass/acoustic guitardobro; Reggie Rouffer
- fiddle;
John Sharp - background vocals; Tommy
Nash - electric/acoustic guitar; Derek Spigener
- drums;
Gary Carpenter - pedal steel/dobro; Randy
Elmore – mandolin; Stefani Little
– background vocals;
Jai Hutcherson - project engineer. If you
have a yearning for old fashioned/traditional country music
this should be right up your alley. (ain't nothing like the
sound of twin fiddles and a steel guitar)All songs are Mike
Parrish originals and reflect a lifetime of listening to country
greats: Hank, Merle, Waylon & Willie, Kris, George, Loretta,
and Johnny (Cash, Gimble, Horton - take your pick)
